Super Eagles-tracked striker wanted by top Euro clubs

George Ilenikhena, an emerging Nigerian talent closely monitored by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, has become a sought-after prospect for several top European clubs. Villarreal, Fiorentina, and Bayer Leverkusen are among the teams keeping tabs on the 18-year-old forward, who has been making waves in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco. His rapid development, combined with his ability to perform on the big stage, has marked him as one of the most exciting young strikers on the continent. Notably, his impressive strike against FC Barcelona in the Champions League further showcased his composure and technical ability at the highest level of competition.

Fiorentina’s interest in Ilenikhena has intensified in recent weeks, particularly after the departure of M’Bala Nzola to Pisa, which left the Italian club searching for reinforcements in attack. The Serie A side is reportedly considering him as part of a reshaped forward line that could also include experienced strikers such as Moise Kean and Edin Dzeko. His blend of pace, strength, and natural finishing instinct makes him a strong candidate to slot into their offensive setup, while his youth offers long-term potential for development. The prospect of pairing him with seasoned attackers could provide Fiorentina with a potent mix of experience and emerging talent.

Despite the growing interest, AS Monaco remains determined to keep Ilenikhena within their ranks. The striker is tied to the club until June 2029, and Monaco’s management is reportedly unwilling to entertain transfer offers at this stage. The competition for a starting role at the Principality side is fierce, with players like Mika Biereth, Breel Embolo, and Folarin Balogun also vying for minutes. Even so, Monaco appears committed to nurturing Ilenikhena’s growth internally rather than allowing him to move abroad. Any potential deal for the young Nigerian would therefore require a significant push from interested clubs, making the race for his signature both competitive and complex.
