Ahmed Musa made a memorable return to the NPFL with Kano Pillars, scoring twice and nearly completing a hat-trick. The Super Eagles captain struck first against Sunshine Stars after just five minutes and then added his second goal in the 51st minute. He had an opportunity to secure a hat-trick in the 70th minute, but his penalty hit the post.
Kano Pillars now sit on seven points after five matches.
Another standout performance came from Michael Ogu, who also netted twice for Heartland in their first win of the season against Niger Tornadoes.
The victory moved Heartland out of the relegation zone, giving them four points from five games.
Rivers United overtook Remo Stars at the top of the NPFL table after a 2-1 win over Akwa United, while Remo lost by a single goal to Kwara United.
Meanwhile, the match between Enyimba and Katsina United was suspended until tomorrow due to floodlight failure at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. The home side was leading 3-0 before the game was halted in the 75th minute.
There were also home victories for Plateau United (1-0 vs Ikorodu City) and Enugu Rangers (1-0 vs Abia Warriors).
