Golden Eaglets step up for WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers

Nigeria’s U17 national football team, popularly known as the Golden Eaglets, are intensifying their training regimen ahead of next month’s WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers. Under the guidance of experienced coach Manu Garba, the five-time world champions have been putting in serious work both on and off the pitch. The team’s focus is to fine-tune their tactics, sharpen their finishing, and build cohesion in preparation for the highly anticipated regional competition, which will be staged in Abeokuta.

On Wednesday, the Golden Eaglets underlined their attacking prowess with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Winsome FC in a friendly match held at the FIFA Goal Project facility, located within the MKO Abiola National Stadium complex in Abuja. The match saw the Eaglets take a comfortable 2-0 lead into halftime before turning on the style in the second period, adding three more goals to seal the comprehensive win. Winsome FC, hailing from Oporoza Island in Warri South West, Delta State, found it difficult to contain the pace, movement, and clinical finishing of the national side’s youngsters.

This latest triumph marked the Eaglets’ fourth warm-up game in their current camp. In their previous outings, the team dispatched Espora Football Academy of Abuja with a 4-0 scoreline, narrowly edged GASA of Ilorin by 1-0, and showed resilience by coming from behind to defeat Bandex Football Academy of Kebbi 3-2. With each match, the squad is gaining valuable match sharpness and building confidence ahead of the qualifiers, where they will aim to continue Nigeria’s proud tradition of dominance in youth football across Africa and beyond.
