Super Eagles coach lists key positions needed for new team

Coach Eric Chelle has expressed his intention to revamp the Super Eagles by introducing fresh talent into the squad. He believes that bringing in new players will increase competition for positions, ultimately strengthening the team. His goal is to make these changes as soon as possible to ensure the squad is in peak condition for upcoming matches.

For the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Chelle selected several uncapped players, including Slavia Praha defender Igho Ogbu, Genk striker Tolu Arokodare, and Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel. The coach is already identifying additional key areas to reinforce ahead of the June international break, during which the Super Eagles are set to play three friendly matches as part of their preparation for the crucial World Cup qualifiers in September.

The positions Chelle aims to strengthen include goalkeeper, left fullback, central defender, box-to-box midfielder, right winger, and striker. He is actively scouting for players who can enhance the team’s performance in these areas. His focus remains on building a competitive and well-balanced squad capable of securing qualification for the World Cup.
