Super Eagles captain Ekong: We will give 100% to qualify for World Cup

The Super Eagles remain optimistic about securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their recent setback at home against Zimbabwe. Team captain William Ekong expressed confidence that Nigeria can still qualify, emphasizing that the team is fully committed to achieving this goal. Currently sitting in fourth place in Group C with just seven points, the team faces an uphill battle, as South Africa leads the group with 13 points. However, with four matches remaining in the qualifying series, Ekong assured fans that the Super Eagles will give their all to secure a place at the global tournament.

Ekong acknowledged the disappointment of dropping two crucial points against Zimbabwe but remained steadfast in his belief that qualification is still possible. He stressed the importance of winning the remaining four matches and giving 100% effort in each game. The captain also addressed ongoing rumors about South Africa potentially fielding an ineligible player, suggesting that while the team is aware of the situation, they remain focused on their own performance until a resolution is reached. Ekong urged Nigerian supporters to keep believing in the squad, even during challenging moments, as their support plays a vital role in the team’s morale.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles have a critical set of fixtures that will determine their World Cup fate. In September, they will host second-placed Rwanda in Uyo before traveling to face group leaders South Africa in a high-stakes encounter. October will see them take on Benin at home before wrapping up their campaign with an away game against Lesotho. With qualification still mathematically possible, the team must deliver strong performances in these matches to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
