Super Eagles to qualify for 2026 World Cup insists bullish Omeruo

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has shared his optimism about the team’s chances of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup next year, despite the significant challenges they face. The seasoned Kasimpasa defender, who is currently sidelined due to a knee injury, expressed the urgency for unified efforts from all stakeholders to ensure the team secures a spot in the tournament, set to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Omeruo emphasized the importance of proactive preparation, stating, “I firmly believe we can secure victories and qualify. Early and effective preparation is crucial to achieving this goal.” He urged both players and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to channel their attention and energy toward the remaining games. He stressed the necessity of detailed planning, especially for away matches, suggesting that officials should arrive early to ensure all logistics are in order. “If we all perform our respective duties, stay focused, and maintain high spirits alongside good fitness from our clubs, we can certainly win and achieve our objectives,” he added.

The defender also expressed confidence in the team’s new head coach, Eric Chelle, highlighting his organizational skills and potential to bring out the best in the squad. “I’ve observed the way the Malians played under him; they were well-organized. I’m confident he has valuable ideas to contribute to our team,” Omeruo remarked. With the depth of talent in the Super Eagles, Omeruo believes Chelle can implement his vision effectively. Reflecting on the progress made under previous leadership, he noted, “When Eguavoen took charge, our confidence was low, but now we’re back to our best. When we play at our peak, no country can stand in our way. I strongly believe we have what it takes to qualify.”
